2D platform games were all the rage back in the day when gaming was still in its earlier days. While the progress and advancements in game development and technology have gotten much better, the charm of a 2D player game still remains popular.

"Steamworld Dig" was the first of the game series that gained a lot of success and led to the "Steamworld Heist" release date.

A video on Nintendo was released a few months ago previewing the gameplay to interested gamers all over the world. The video opens with a Scrappers invading the Cowbots ship and trying to take it over. While the game is a far cry from the 3D open world games, the 2D graphics are actually quite good and follow a steampunk style.

Like many 3DS games, the screen below is used as a map especially when it comes to finding enemies.

The game is retailed at $20, but it will be sold at $17 from its release date until December 31 as a promotional deal.

The release date for "Steamworld Heist" for 3DS is on Dec. 10 in the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. A Japanese version of the game will be coming at a much later date, as reported by IGN.

"Steamworld Heist" is the sequel to a platform action-adventure game created by indie developer Image & Form called "Steamworld Dig." Here players control the main character called Rusty who recieved a deed for a mine from his long-forgotten uncle. The main objective of this 2D platform game is to dig and solve puzzles while avoiding various traps and enemies.
