'The Asterisk War' Light Novel And Manga Licensed By Yen Press For Summer 2016 Release

10 years ago, if you wanted to buy manga to own, there's a good chance you couldn't buy it unless it was a popular series.

Times have definitely changed since I left New York Comic Con 2015 with about three volumes of free manga courtesy of Yen Press, Viz Media, and more.

Speaking of Yen Press, the North American publisher of manga and light novels recently revealed its summer 2016 release slate on their official Twitter account. One of the biggest titles on the list was "The Asterisk War" light novel and manga series that has also been recently adapted into an anime.

Fans expressed much excitement on Twitter about "The Asterisk War" light novel and manga release from Yen Press.

"@YenPress I'm really excited for this light novel/manga. It's an awesome one," said Fico.

For those not familiar with "The Asterisk War" light novel series, it was created by Yuu Miyazaki with original illustrations by Okiura. The light novels had released seven volumes when the anime adaptation was announced earlier this year. Aniplex USA has licensed the anime adaptation, and is streaming it to fans outside of Japan.

In addition to the manga and anime adaptations, "The Asterisk War" light novels are also being adapted into a PS Vita video game. Set to be released some time in 2016, the game is tentatively titled "The Asterisk War: Hoka Kenran."

Funimation, who is also streaming "The Asterisk War" anime series, describes the story as follows:

"Less than a century ago a meteor collided with the planet's surface and the resulting disaster caused the next generation of humanity to develop a wide variety of amazing abilities. In the center of the meteor's crater lies Rikka, a system of six academies known as the Asterisk."

It goes on:

"Ayato Amagiri enters the Asterisk as a transfer student hoping to compete in a special battle event known as the Festa. However, he quickly finds himself on the bad side of one of the strongest fighters around-the beautiful but fiery Julis-Alexa von Riessfeld. To stand against her he'll have to rely on his own sword-wielding ability, but when the tables turn, will they be able to team up to take down the competition?"
