There are several "Godzilla" properties currently in development, and the first one to drop a teaser trailer comes from Japan for "Godzilla: Resurgence."
On Wednesday, the official teaser trailer for the documentary-style "Godzilla" movie premiered online. Produced by Toho and directed by Hideaki Anno ("Neon Genesis Evangelion") and Shinji Higuchi ("Attack on Titan"), "Resurgence" is a response to Legendary's success with the recent American "Godzilla" revival.
"The time has come for Japan to make a film that will not lose to Hollywood," said producer Taichi Ueda last year. "This is very good timing after the success of the American version this year: if not now, then when?"
According to Slash Film, "Godzilla: Resurgence" will arrive July 29, 2016 in Japan.
This film will arrive before Legendary Pictures' sequel to Gareth Edwards' version of "Godzilla," and well before "Godzilla Vs. King Kong."
Reportedly, Legendary has taken monumental moves to move "Kong: Skull Island" from Universal to Warner Bros. in order to have a shared universe with "Godzilla."
"I'm juvenile," said Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull according to Variety. "I wanted to see them fight."
As for the highly anticipated sequel to Edwards' "Godzilla" property, nothing has been updated except for a confirmation of the various monsters the eponymous monster will fight. Reportedly, this will include Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah.
"Kong: Skull Island" is currently filming and will release March 10, 2017. "Godzilla 2," once again helmed by Edwards, will open June 8, 2018.
