The Detroit Pistons seems to have found the point guard for their future in recently signed Reggie Jackson.
Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy has stated numerous times his fondness for Jackson. As per cbssports.com, Van Gundy said "He's got great confidence."
He then added "I think he thinks he's as good as anyone. You've got to believe that and I think that's why even two years ago, when he was only 22, he was playing well in playoff games."
The head coach the spoke about the recent contract extension with the former Oklahoma City Thunder point guard. "It was a big day for us last year when we made the trade for Reggie, but now to get him locked up for the long term is even bigger for us," said Van Gundy.
"We look at Reggie as a big part of our foundation that we're trying to build here," he added.
Furthermore, as Brandon Jennings recovers from a torn ACL, back up Steve Blake has made Van Gundy a fan for the veteran point guard. According to espn.com, Van Gundy said this about Blake and his decision to choose the veteran over Spencer Dinwiddie:
"I like the way he moves the ball, passes the ball."
"I thought Spencer, though, has played four pretty good games in a row, so I'd be comfortable having him out there and we'll see how it goes, but yeah I think Steve will be our backup," the coach added.
With these comments, rumors are starting to swirl regarding Branon Jennings and his position with the team. As stated by nj.com, the New York Knicks could be in the running for Jennings by offering Jose Calderon and Jerien Grant. This would allow the Pistons to have a deeper rotation for their backcourt while getting rid of Jennings' contract.
Van Gundy has been known to use multiple point guards at the same time and Calderon's shooting would fit well with the young Pistons team.
