Sony has announced a "Gran Turismo Sport" release date ahead of the franchise's much-awaited seventh installment.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, confirmed that the game isn't a prologue to "Gran Turismo 7," explaning that more can be added into "GT Sports" as DLC, which was not possible in the previous prologue games of "Gran Turismo 4" and "Gran Turismo 5."
"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage," Ryan added in a statement published by PlayStation LifeStyle. "Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that."
"When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."
Along with the announcment of the "Gran Turismo Sport" release date, Sony has also dropped gameplay details about the upcoming title.
"On stage, the Polyphony team talked about the advances that PS4 offers to allow them to continue to improve the graphics, physics, and sound to deliver the most realistic driving simulator to date," according to an official statement that appears on the PlayStation blog. "But with GT Sport they're looking to deliver more than that; to deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative "rebirth" of motorsports."
The game will reportedly feature highly evolved graphics and sound quality, along with a revamped physics engine. "Gran Turismo Sports" will also feature two FIA online championships: A Nations Cup series, wherein players can participate in races for their home country, while the Manufacturers Cup allows users to drive for their favorite manufacturer.
"Gran Turismo Sport's" release date will be revealed in 2016. "Gran Turismo 7" is still without a release date.
