It looks like the Miami Heat are looking to build another big three and this time, it will be New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony filling the role LeBron James left two years ago.
In a report by Ira Winderman, the Heat trading for Melo in exchange for rookie Justise Winslow, Luol Deng and Hassan Whiteside would make a lot of sense for both teams. The Heat will get a formidable starting line-up once again while the Knicks get significant building blocks around rookie sensation, Kristaps Porzingis.
Here's what Winderman has to say about a potential blockbuster trade via WQAM's Joe Rose Show.
"Joe, there is a Part C in this equation and I bring it up only because ESPN has mentioned that and that's Carmelo Anthony," said Winderman. "And there are some equations there where you could say the Knicks might say we'd rather have Winslow and Whiteside and rebuild around Porzingis with a sort of shot-blocker guy in the middle to make up for defensive mistakes."
"Would I be willing to trade Luol Deng and Justise Winslow and Hassan Whiteside for Carmelo Anthony and Joe, I've got to admit I would at least think about it because it's what Pat Riley does - puts Big Threes together. You'd have Dwyane, you'd have Goran, you'd have Bosh and you'd have Carmelo and I think the Knicks realize they have to reset behind Porzingis anyway. I think that's something I would at least think about."
The only point of concern for Pat Riley and the Heat is, would they be willing to form a big three consisting of 30 year-olds that in two-year's time, might be at the twilight zones of their career? Stay tuned.
