Fans Debate Reason For 'Yandere Simulator' Game Ban From Twitch Stream

Censorship in video games has once again surfaced in the news, this time focused on the "Yandere Simulator" game where the object is to get sempai to notice you by any means necessary.

Even if it includes murder.

"Yandere Simulator" creator YandereDev recently explained on Twitter that the game is now blacklisted from Twitch streaming. In response, fans on Reddit are debating why "Yandere Simulator" is now banned.

Some are accusing Twitch of hypocrisy because of other games that are allowed despite containing the same level of violence and nudity that "Yandere Simulator" contains.

One of the highest ranked comments in the official Reddit discussion thread for the "Yandere Simulator" ban asks the question of why the game is banned and other violent video games like "GTA V" is not banned from Twitch streaming. The response from Rossco1337 points out how it might be related to money.

"What do you think? If Twitch banned a game that popular, they'd actually lose money. Twitch can do whatever they want since it's their platform, but the Steam version of the banned Sakura Swim Club is rated 15+ because it contains no actual nudity whatsoever," said Rossco1337.

"The violence and murder-based gameplay in the 18+ GTA series doesn't need to be censored as much as already censored cartoon breasts."

Part of the reason fans can speculate about the reason "Yandere Simulator" is now banned from Twitch streaming is that the company has reportedly not explained in depth to the developer what specific elements are a problem. In an email to the writers at Polygon, YandereDev expressed frustration with the lack of transparency on the part of Twitch.

"It is, indeed, very frustrating that Twitch is not clear about exactly what makes a game inappropriate for their service. Some of the games on their 'prohibited games list; are undisputedly pornographic in nature, but a few of them are almost harmless compared to the content visible in 'GTA5' or 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'," said YandereDev.

Despite the abrupt blacklisting of "Yandere Simulator," the developer did express a hope that Twitch will reverse the decision.
