Pokemon GO Leak: Collecting Unique Shards Necessary For Pokemon Evolution?

Recently leaked gameplay details for the much-awaited Pokemon GO have revealed new information about the game, including a different process for evolution.

In the leaked information posted by a Redditor, it revealed that players, in the field test, will start the game with no Pokemon. It added that currently, there are already 151 Pokemon data files in the game and they are classed into three groups: normal, legendary and mythic. Accordingly, all Pokemon types, including Fairy, Dark and Steel, are included in the available files.

One big difference, however, between Pokemon GO and the regular Nintendo Pokemon games, as mentioned by the same Redditor, is the process of Pokemon evolution, including the type of requirements needed for monsters to evolve.

According to the leak, evolution in Pokemon GO will work with players collecting shards to build evolution stones. These shards will come from wild Pokemon. A video posted by GAME Previews in YouTube said that each Pokemon will have unique shards and that there will be a chart for the required number and types of shards for players to follow should they want to evolve their Pokemon.

Taken as an example by the video is that when a gamer wants to evolve a Caterpie, he/she will have to catch 10 Caterpies to collect shards and make it evolve into Metapod. Same goes with other characters like Tentacool which would need 20 shards to make it evolve into Tentacruel and like Magikarp which would take 50 shards to evolve into Gyarados.

This new process in evolution, according to Bitbag, is for Pokemon GO to ensure that it maintains a challenging evolution system for the game. It added that another reason for this difference is the rumored "microtransactions." According to the report, many fans speculate that gamers will be required to spend heaps of money in the game to level up their characters.
