Apple Watch 2 Release Date, Specs: New ‘Stylish, Thinner’ Apple Watch To Be Unveiled In June?

Many Apple fans are expecting for the tech giant to finally release its next generation smartwatch, Apple Watch 2, this coming June at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

In its report, International Business Times said that an Apple official has told the Korea Times about the Apple Watch 2 hitting the global market this June and its unveiling will happen in the WWDC, one of Apple's traditional annual events.

According to the report, Apple Watch 2, in terms of hardware, will still be using the OLED display, which is proven to consume less power as compared to the conventional LCD screen. The OLED display also has richer colours and darker blacks resulting to a much better resolution.

Accordingly, the report added that the same official has confirmed that LG will be the primary supplier of OLED screens to be used for Apple Watch 2 while Samsung had managed to win a separate contract to supply some of the OLED panels. This latest development is in contrary to earlier reports, which said that LG Display is the sole supplier of the OLED panels for Apple Watch 2.

Moreover, the report said that the new Apple Watch 2 will be "comparatively slimmer" than the current model.

As to its design, Ecumenical News reported that the next generation smartwatch would not sport too much of its flashier design changes, instead it would be significantly introducing more internal upgrades. The report said that these new details came from a note written by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The details about the internal components to be upgraded, however, were not specified.

The report, furthermore, highlighted that according to Ming-Chi Kuo's note, changes in the design for Apple Watch may have to wait until next year although Apple Watch 2 will have some tweaks to its form factor yet these may not be that significant.
