‘Persona 5’ Release Date Was Meant To Be A Hoax?

A few days ago, the "Persona 5" release date was announced in the game's official website in the form of a countdown. However, the announcement was found out to be a hoax.

Originally, Atlus was supposed to reveal the "Persona 5" release date on May 5 but it was announced much earlier. The game will most likely be released on Jul. 8 in Japan.

According to Gear Nuke, a hacker had managed to break into the official website of "Persona 5" and announced the fake date of the game. Many were astonished that the official site has made an announcement even though Atlus has not confirmed "Persona 5's" PC version yet.

The "Persona 5" game was supposed to be released for PS3 in winter 2014 but it was delayed to 2015. After that, Atlus has revealed that there will be a PS4 version. However, it was delayed again to summer 2016.

Because of the commotion, Atlus USA PR manager John Hardin immediately declared that the announced release date was just a hoax and dismissed any other rumors in relation to the game.

Apparently, fans and Atlus were distressed on the outcome since it was not only a hoax but the hacker has also broken through the SQL of the website. It was reported that the hacker has guessed its password, which was named after an Atlus game.

In the end, the hackers apologized on NeoGAF, a video game forum. They have been also vigilant on the threads. As of the meantime, the page for the announcement where the "Persona 5" release date was revealed has been shut down.

According to App Trigger, rumors and fake information are just normal in the game industry. There have been many cases similar to what happened with Atlus. Take for example the fake Nintendo NX controller leak. The "Persona 5" release date is still unconfirmed as of the moment. Hopefully, fans can expect big news next month.
