Big Bang member T.O.P now ready to enter mandatory military conscription

Big Bang rapper T.O.P has finalized his preparation for mandatory military service. He has already completed the exam to be conscripted as police officer.

T.O.P is registered as his real name Choi Seung-Hyun (최승현) and according to KBS News, his name was listed at number 38 from 348 candidates who took the exam in the second floor of the Seoul central police headquarters.

Result of the exam will be announced three weeks from now on November 11, according to Korea Daily. The result will determine the list of the accepted applicants to be conscripted as police officer. If Choi passed the exam, he will be starting his conscription service as police officer starting next year.

South Korea is one of the countries that regulate the conscription along with North Korea, Israel, Singapore, Austria, Chile, Cuba, Algeria and other countries. The conscription in South Korea is applicable to every male aged 18 to 35. Every male Korean citizen who has come to a legal age is must undergo a physical checkup to determine their suitability for the military service.

After the physical exam, they wait for the conscription letter to register for two-years mandatory service. Those who failed physical and psychological exam will be conscripted to public service. The conscription is only exempted for Olympic Games medal winners and gold medalists in the Asian Games, but they must still attend the four-week basic military training.

Currently, Korean idols who serve their conscription as police officers are two Super Junior members Lee Dong-Hae and Choi Si-Won, along with TVXQ’s Shim Chang-Min. Lee will be discharged from the service on July 14 next year, while Shi-Won and Chang-Min a month later on August 18.

The 28-year-old Choi will be the first Big Bang member to be conscripted. The group has just finished their world tour after their last album “MADE” was released last year. The song "Bang Bang Bang" from the album was listed at the top position of the Billboard's World Digital Chart last year.
