Distributor of French-Canadian animation movie “Ballerina” in Korea selected IOI member Kim So-Hye as the ambassador of the movie in Korea. She will involve in many promotional activities including provide narration for the movie trailer and other activities.
Kim was selected as the ambassador because of the similarities between her career and the main character in the animation as reported by Seoul Daily News. She became the member of IOI through a fierce competition in the Mnet singing competition show “Produce 101.”
“Produce 101” is a competition among 101 traineers from various entertainment agencies to form a new girl group. The competition began in January and ended in April 2016. After the competition, 90 of them are eliminated with only 11 are selected to become the girl group IOI which is now managed under YMC Entertainment agency and CJ E&M.
Story of “Ballerina” resembles Kim’s journey to become the member of IOI. The animation movie follows its main character Felice a poor orphan girl who has a dream to become a ballerina. Her dream seems to be impossible, but she escapes from the orpahange and goes to Paris, accompanied by her friend Viktor. In Paris, they were separated, as Viktor joined Gustav Eiffel workshop, while Felice auditioned for Paris Opera Ballet.
Similar to Kim, the main character in the movie Felice also has lack of training. During the first audition of “Produce 101” the jury commented on Kim’s performance as lack of basic training to become member of idol girl group. However, she managed to overcome the obstacle and become the finalists, eliminating 90 other contestants.
Kim said she also liked ballet and hearing the name ballet can make her quiver as reported by MJH. She likes the movie because it tells the story about chasing one’s dream and to never give up.
“If you have a dream but you don’t have the courage to chase your dream, I hope you watch the ‘Ballerina’ and get your courage,” she said.
