Gaon Music Awards is one of the highly anticipated and well-attended events in South Korea. Gaon Music Awards 2017 will be the sixth annual event for the award giving body.
According to Soompi, the first round of performers for the upcoming Gaon Music Awards 2017 has been revealed by the Korea Association of Music Content on Jan. 23. Korea Association of Music Content is the organization behind the Gaon Music Awards. As of writing, ten popular Kpop groups have been confirmed to perform at the Gaon Music Awards 2017.
SHINee's Onew, SISTAR, BeWhy, EXO, Dean, MAMAMOO, Bolbbalgan Sachoongi, GFRIEND, Han Dong Gun and TWICE comprise the first round of Gaon Music Awards 2017 performers. The winners of Gaon Music Awards will be based on the artists' performance in the award giving body's music charts.
According to Kpopmap, the sales data of each song and album of the nominated artists will be the major basis for choosing the winners. However, the chart also offers a popularity award through paid voting via their app.
"We would like to honor the K-pop artists who have worked hard over the past year," a source for the award show stated. The popularity of Hallyu artists has been noticeably growing as more international fans show their support and give their attention to Korean award ceremonies. Further, All Kpop reports that international spectators, especially from Europe, are expected to grace the Gaon Music Awards.
