BTS has been busy breaking records left and right for their latest releases and even proved that they're ready for the big leagues when they outsold the recent albums of hitmakers like Britney Spears, Fifth Harmony and even Mariah Carey. As they set out to take the world stage for their Wings tour, BTS leader Rap Monster shares the secret to the Bangtan Boys' success on the world scale.
In an interview with Idolator, Rap Monster opened up about what he thinks is the key to their popularity, even to foreign fans. He said that hard work and dedication to their craft is one of the reasons that they are slowly making a name for themselves internationally.
Rap Monster shared that since the group started in 2013, they have been very involved in their music, growing and evolving in aspects of singing, writing, producing, dancing and performing. He said they draw inspiration from the experiences of their peers from their age group, making their music very relatable especially for young people.
In terms of international appeal, he attributed their sound to western pop and hip hop roots. He said that because they want to continuously evolve, they also draw inspiration from different types of music to break cultural barriers. Their signature choreography that synchs beautifully with their songs, he said, is also what sets their performances apart from others.
When asked about what he thought about outselling popular international artists, Rap Monster humbly thanked their ARMY from all over the world for their strong show support. He said that that they are constantly driven and motivated to do better by their fans' faith in their abilities.
It can be recalled that both of the BTS' recent releases from their "You Never Walk Alone" album, "Spring Day" and "Not Today" smashed viewing records on youtube and posted fastest times to reach 30 million views on the streaming site. Aside from achieving all-kill status in Korean radio stations, "Spring Day," in particular, also took the top spot on iTunes in 13 countries and even managed to enter the top 10 of iTunes US charts, a feat that was only achieved by PSY for his Gangnam Style, Soompi reported.
BTS is currently on their "The Wings Tour; BTS Live Trilogy Episode III" which kicked off in Seoul and will take on locations like Chile, Brazil, US, Jakarta, Manila, Thailand, Hong Kong and Australia from March through May. For more information on the tour, check out Kpopstarz.
