The first K-drama of Total Variety Network (tvN) was released last month, My Shy Boss, Sensitive Boss or popularly known as Introverted Boss. Yeon Woo Jin known from When a Man Falls in Love and Divorce Lawyer in Love, Park Hye Soo an actress from Yong Pal and Age of Youth, are the artists featured in this romantic comedy.
This series started with a public relations firm's intelligent CEO named Yeon Hwan Ki (Woo Jin) who appeared insensitive. An extrovert named Chae Ro Woon (Hye Soo) who had an excellent communication skills started the intriguing change of this drama. Way back three years an incident happened to Chae Ro Woon's sister and believing that it was Hwan Ki's fault. Ro Woon wishes vengeance and works under him.
Introverted Boss, based in viewership ratings garnered with about three percent across the board. Like in western dramas, a conflicting approach was observed which began to cause their ratings to drop slowly, every character to have a sluggish progression and the series to be at slower pace.
These triggered tvN, thus, they decided to consider the feedbacks of viewers and agreed for script revisions. Four episodes passed and it seems that their plan worked. An enhanced series was noticed and "Introverted Boss" was appreciated by both domestic and international viewers as cited on the Inquisitr.
After the third episode, the viewership ratings dropped by 1.5 percent for the Seoul National Capital Area. "Introverted Boss" didn't release episodes during the Chinese New Year Holiday. During the holiday, however, the cast and crew took the chance to improve revising the script to have their ratings increase. Statistically speaking, the viewership ratings wouldn't rise up to ten percent after the script revision.
At the end of the seventh and eighth episodes, viewership ratings have been gradually increasing. This has been the sign that script revision really did help the Introverted Boss get noticed by more people. AGB Nielsen Korea and TNms Media Korea stated that viewership ratings in Seoul National Capital Area have averaged about 2 percent and about 1.5 percent for the entire nation according to Soompi.
So the following are the major changes that occur.
Eun Hwan Ki's relationship with Chae Ji Hye, who later committed suicide.
Hwan Ki is an avid fan of Ji Hye, who plays a minor role in the famous play of the "Phantom of the Opera". He never misses her shows and frequently sending her flowers anonymously. Ji Hye, Chae Ro Woon's older sister, was Hwan Ki's secretary during the time that she committed suicide. With these facts, the viewers had a hard time comprehending what was really the flow of the said drama. During the fifth episode, they did a flashback of the details three years ago when Ji Hye killed herself. The said episode revealed the relationship of Ji Hye and Hwan Ki before the unfortunate death of Ji Hye. Ro Woon, who was plotting to avenge her sister's death, is slowly getting to know Hwan Ki's warm and sensitive side, which is an unseen characteristic of him. Ro Woon is getting to know Hwan Ki the way Ji Hye knew him.
Leading Characters were lightly changed. Episodes one to four clearly showed that Hwan Ki was introverted and Ro Woon was extroverted. Consequently, Hwan Ki's a mess when it comes to social situations while Ro Woon's blunt and obnoxious. Now as the results of the changes, Hwan Ki is able to take care of social situations and Ro Woon not so bossy anymore. With these changes, clear possibilities of romance are shown to the viewers.
Faster Pace. Before the changes, a slower pace was observed which led the viewer to have a negative feedback. By changing the pace, many possibilities can be laid out. 16 episodes are expected by tvN and the viewers.
As of the moment, effects of script changes on viewers rating has been checked if double-digit earns could be observed. If such ratings could not be achieved at least tvN could be satisfied that popularity rate of K-drama is continuously growing. On Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 on the evening, Introverted Boss is aired. It can also be viewed on Korean cable channels, Drama Fever (as My Shy Boss) and OnDemandKorea.
