Netflix To Release New K-Pop Documentary About BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK in your area, and to your screens! It has recently been announced that streaming service Netflix will be releasing a new K-pop documentary, with BLACKPINK as the focus.

The documentary will be titled "BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky" and will premiere next month as an all-access documentary. YG Entertainment told numerous South Korean media outlets that the upcoming documentary will show the past four years of BLACKPINK's careers, even going way back to their debut back in 2016.

The documentary will contain never before seen footage of the girls as they trains, their life at home, as well as stories and honest interviews with the members. It will also show the group's recording process, the pros and cons of being internationally famous K-pop idols, and how they prepared for their iconic 2019 Coachella performance.

Netflix has dabbled in Korean media before - they have launched several Korean dramas, such as "Extracurricular," "Prison Playbook," "Kingdom," and "SKY Castle." However, they have never released a documentary featuring a K-pop artist or group before. Before announcing this documentary, they have only produced documentaries for Western artists, such as Taylor Swift's "Miss Americana" and Lady Gaga's "Five Foot Two."

When speaking about the BLACKPINK documentary, Adam Del Deo, the VP of Documentary Features, had this to say, “The K-pop phenomenon has been sweeping the globe, and BLACKPINK has arguably become the most recognizable and most popular girl group in the world. Director Caroline Suh’s trusted relationship with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa offers organic and honest moments that give viewers an authentic inside look into the lives of BLACKPINK, as well as the dedication and grueling preparation each member puts into every hit song, history-making performance, and sold-out arena tour. We are thrilled to bring their story to their fans worldwide.”
