Acquaintances of Former AOA Member Jimin Give Update about Her Following Her Departure

[Trigger Warning/Content Warning: Mentions of Bullying]

It has been seven months since former AOA member and leader Jimin parted ways with the group and halted all of her activities in the entertainment industry. Recently, her close friends gave an update about her current situation.

Back in July 2020, former AOA member Mina made multiple Instagram posts, detailing what she has experienced as a member of the girl group for the past ten years. In her posts, she stated that she experienced bullying from one of her fellow members, later revealing that it was Jimin. Mina also mentioned that she once attempted to take her own life because of Jimin's bad treatment toward her.

The controversy grew further when Mina uploaded self-harm pictures on her SNS account and claimed that she has not received any apology from the person she experienced bullying. Following this, Jimin posted an apology via her Instagram account, and shortly after that, FNC Entertainment issued a statement, announcing that Jimin will be leaving AOA, as well as retiring from the entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, Mina departed from the group back in May 2019 after being managed by FNC for seven years. She also left her new management agency, Woori Actors, in September 2020 after her contract expired. She joined the company just four months earlier.

What Happened to Jimin after the Bullying Controversy?

Since the news broke out, Jimin stopped all of her activities and deleted all her social media accounts, as well as her YouTube channel. Daily News reported on Jan. 6 that Jimin has remained disconnected from the public following her departure from the label. It is also said that she has not been meeting even one of her friends nor her managers. Jimin's close acquaintances have shared what her current situation is, saying that the former AOA member is currently living in seclusion.

Shin Jimin, mononymously called Jimin, was the former leader and main rapper of the girl group AOA, which is managed by FNC Entertainment. She debuted as a member of the Korean act in July 2012 with the single album "Angels' Story," which contains the title track "Elvis." Jimin was also part of the band's unit, AOA Black that was formed in 2013. She was the one who wrote the rap part for the unit's track "Moya."

In 2015, Shin competed in a variety program called Unpretty Rapstar, a female counterpart of Show Me The Money. During the contest, Jimin released a few collaboration tracks, including "T4SA" with Nuck and MC Meta and "Good Start" (featuring Seulong), and "Puss." The two last-mentioned songs both entered the Gaon Singles Chart peaking at No. 2 and No 1, respectively.

Besides AOA activities, Jimin also carried out solo activities after she made her solo debut in March 2016 with the song "Call You Bae," featuring EXO Xiumin. In October 2017, she launched another track, titled "Hallelujah" in collaboration with the magazine W Korea.

The former idol also lent her voice for the original soundtrack of tvN's "A Korean Odyssey," alongside Seo Yuna. Titled "If You Were Me," the song was issued in January 2018.
