STAYC Receives Praises after Covering Girls' Generation's 'Way To Go'

STAYC is one of the rookie groups in the K-pop scene and they were one of the highly-awaited new Korean acts to make a debut in the entertainment industry. Since their debut, the band continues to receive praises from fans and netizens alike as they prove their impeccable singing and dancing skills.

On Jan. 8, STAYC was one of the performers on KBS's Music Bank, and the new girl group performed Girls Generation's 2009 song "Way To Go." The video was also uploaded on KBS's YouTube channel on that day. Singing with high energy the rookie group was able to exude their fresh charms while delivering the song in their own style.

Following this, STAYC's performance became a hot topic among Koreans after the video was shared in an online community. Some commenters who flocked to the post gave the girls praises. They pointed out how the members were singing live and dancing energetically yet their vocals remain stable. One netizen shared that he likes watching STAYC's performances since members always give their all. Another netizen left a comment that says the new K-pop girl group is most likely to become more popular in the coming years after they gain more experience.

While some noticed the artists' talents, other commenters took note of STAYC's stunning visuals. They stated that each member has a unique beauty that never fails to amaze them.

Meanwhile, Girls' Generation's "Way To Go" is the second song in the legendary girl group's debut extended play titled "Gee," which was released on Jan. 7, 2009. The track was initially a collaboration digital single called "Haptic Motion" between the female act and Dong Bang Shin Ki. It was used for Samsung's Anycall Haptic commercial series in which three Girls' Generation members: Jessica, Yoona, and Tiffany were featured.

"Way To Go" follows the EP's lead single "Gee," which was the best-selling song of 2009 in South Korea. "Gee" was the longest-running No. 1 song on Music Bank that time, claiming the top spot for nine weeks in a row. The record was later on held by PSY's "Gangnam Style" after taking the No. 1 position for ten consecutive weeks.

As for STAYC (an acronym of Star To A Young Culture), the rookie group continues to impress the public not only with their lovely appearances but also with their distinct talents. Also, the band's name can still be spotted on music charts with their debut single album titled "Star To A Young Culture," including Gaon Chart.

In particular, last December, STAYC was at No. 33 on the chart's December album sales. The new girl group earned a total of 12,731 sales for that month, resulting in an overall sale of 31,449 in 2020. And although it has already been months since their single album was issued (on Nov. 12, 2020), and it is already a new start of the year, STAYC's release is still charting on the Gaon Chart. For the first week of 2021, "Star To A Young Culture" is at No. 12 on the Gaon Album Chart.
