BTS Jimin Reaches 700 Million Combined Spotify Streams, Idol Becomes First & Only Korean Soloist To Attain the Milestone

On Saturday, Feb. 12, Spotify announced that BTS Jimin surpassed 700 million combined streams with his four solo tracks.

"Filter," released in 2020, is one of the four tracks that reached 700 million streams on Spotify, combined with "Serendipity," "Intro: Serendipity," and "Lie."

"Serendipity" was released in 2017, and "Lie" was released in 2016. The recent milestone on Spotify is exclusive to BTS Jimin because no other K-pop soloist has ever received the same recognition.

As of writing, BTS Jimin has not released his debut solo album yet. So, all four songs are included in the albums previously released by the K-pop group.

BTS Jimin Talks About 'Promise'

On Dec. 30, 2018, BTS Jimin released his first solo music, "Promise" on SoundCloud. But this is just one song and ARMYs are still waiting for him to release an entire debut solo album.

In January 2019, BTS Jimin talked about "Promise" and said that the song was inspired by his personal struggles. He told ARMYs at the time that "Promise" was supposed to be a dark song.

Throughout his process of songwriting for six to seven months, BTS Jimin said he went back and forth with the lyrics and melodies of "Promise," especially in the chorus part.

He admitted that composing music used to be his stress-reliever from all the thoughts that are running in his head.

When he spoke to BTS RM about his struggles, the latter told him that making music has always helped him relieve stress. He then decided to channel his energy to writing "Promise."

However, since he was in a dark phase in his life at the time, he was only able to write gloomy lyrics.

But when things finally got better for him, his feelings suddenly changed. And "Promise" became an entirely different song that what it was originally supposed to be.

BTS Jimin Opens Up About 'Filter,' 'Serendipity,' and 'Lie'

In February 2020, BTS Jimin opened up about his solo track, "Filter," which is featured in the BTS album, "Map of the Soul: 7."

He told Spotify that "Filter" is about a person's perspective or prejudice. He said that he took these concepts alongside filters being used on the phones to change one's appearance, and expressed them into the song.

BTS Jimin added that he wants to present himself to the world in many different ways that's why he came up with the idea behind "Filter."

"Serendipity," on the other hand, is featured in the BTS album, "Love Yourself: Her."

The song is about realizing the importance of loving oneself.

"Lie" is a song that shows how BTS Jimin's two personalities are fighting with each other. One side is honest and true while the other has so many insecurities.

The song is included in BTS's album, "WINGS."
