IU Dominates iTunes Charts Worldwide with 'The Winning,' Album Enters Genie, Bugs, More!

On February 21, Korean news outlets reported that the soloist's sixth mini album "The Winning" has reached the top of the iTunes charts all over the world.

According to sources, "The Winning" managed to secure a place on the Top Albums of iTunes charts in over 15 different regions.

The impact was seen in regions such as Mexico, Macau, Brazil, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and many more. Additionally, the album also claimed No. 1 on domestic music charts such as MelOn's Top 100, Hot 100, Genie, and Bugs.

On January 26, IU's viral pre-release track "Love wins all" made rounds on the iTunes charts by claiming No. 1 in over 23 different regions such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Bahrain, etc.

Shortly after its release on January 24, at 6 p.m., KST, "Love wins all" immediately made its debut on MelOn's Top 100 at No. 1. This achievement also led IU to become the first female artist in MelOn Top 100 to debut a No. 1 hit.

IU's "The Winning" was officially released on February 20. The album also contains two title tracks, which are "Holssi" (released on February 16) and "Shopper" (released on February 20).

Aside from the two main songs, it also contains B-sides "Dandelion," "Shh.." (feat. NewJeans Hyein, Joe Won Sun & Special Narr. Patti Kim) "Love wins all," and "I stan U."

IU Shares Inspiration for 'Shopper,' Discusses Dreams & Desires

In other news, IU released an interview for her album "The Winning" on February 19. The video showed the soloist elaborating on each song's essence, as well as imparting her own personal thoughts on the album's content.

At some point during the clip, IU explained the message behind the song "Shopper."

"If you need it, then material things are fine, everything's okay," IU shared. "It doesn't need to be abstract or material. If it's your desire, it doesn't matter. Wanting it confidently is the message."

IU then discussed the diversity in the past, saying how children and adults nowadays limit their professions due to practical reasons and being pragmatic with their dreams. The singer followed up how her dreams changed every day.

"No one can blame you for having dreams that are absurd," IU assured. "It's your desires and wants at the end of the day, right?"
