SHINee Taemin Signs Exclusive Contract With Big Planet Made After Leaving SM Entertainment

On April 1, Korean news outlets reported that Taemin had signed an exclusive contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment.

The agency also let out a brief statement that expressed enthusiasm over Taemin's inclusion. Big Planet Made shared that Taemin will receive the company's support and asked for everyone's encouragement over the idol's upcoming endeavors.

"We have signed an exclusive contract with singer Taemin, who is the main dancer of SHINee and is currently performing exceptionally as a solo artist," Big Planet Made stated. "In the future, we will support Taemin's wide range of music activities, and we will do our best to soar in a wider and more diverse approach."

The agency continued, "Thank you for your support and love for Taemin's new chapter."

Taemin debuted with SHINee under SM Entertainment in 2008, trailed by his official solo debut in 2014. Following the news of his signing with Big Planet Made, the agency released brand new profile photos of Taemin on its official SNS.

Here's how Shawols reacted:

  • "Good luck Taemin on your new chapter!"
  • "BPM, please take good care of our Taeminnie."
  • "Let's make many good memories with Taemin and his new staff, please love and treasure him like we do."
  • "Love our Taemin and take care of him, we look forward to seeing him soon."

On March 5, K-Media reported that Taemin's exclusive contract with SM Entertainment will expire in late March. It disclosed that after his contract had expired, Taemin would flourish as a soloist under a new company.

However, his group activities with SHINee will be continued under SM Entertainment. Furthermore, K-Media revealed that several industry insiders claimed that member Onew will also conclude his exclusive contract with SM in 2024's first half.

In the case of Taemin, a Big Planet Made representative responded to the reports of the idol joining the agency. According to sources, the official simply stated, "Nothing has been confirmed yet."

Following this, SM released a statement addressing the contract status of each SHINee member. It also confirmed that SHINee would continue their group activities under SM.

"SHINee's activities will continue on SM without changes," it stated. "Solo activity contracts will be decided in the direction that each member wants."

"Minho and Key are having discussions with us about their group and solo activities, and Onew is openly exploring various directions," SM continued. "The exclusive contract with Taemin ends at the end of March and his future after the (contract) termination has not yet been confirmed and he is still considering other angles."
