In an article, OSEN highlighted celebrities who are members of Korea's elite families and one of them is K-pop icon, 2NE1 CL!
On May 15, the K-media outlet listed down stars from elite families whose parents are known for being unversity professors.
Among idols, CL was given the spotlight for her impressive family background.
In particular, the star's father is named Lee Ki Jin, a Physics professor at Sogang University, one of South Korea's top and most prestigious private schools. In 2024, it even ranked No. 509 in QS World University Rankings.
A professor in the university has an average salary of 50M KRW per year (approximately 37.2k USD).
On top of that, CL's father is a world-renowned physicist who was sought all over the globe he revealed that he even received a blank check from a large Chinese company in exchange for a newtech during diabetes research.
On his guesting for "You Quiz on the Block," he explained:
"They said they would give me money no matter how much I wanted. When I received the proposal, the research funds were all gone, but I thought that there are things in the world that should be done and things that should not be done, and this was not the case."
"Because the research done after receiving research funds from the Korean government is lost, we did not want to leak domestic technology. This is my conscience as a scientist."
Justt like her upright father, the daughter CL also walked forward with her convictions without hesitation.
When she was in her second year of high school, CL announced that she would drop out, and her father reacted in an unexpected way. Instead of scolding her, he said:
"It must have been a long time since you made the decision, so ‘Okay, do whatever you want.’"
Thanks to her supportive dad, CL graduated from high school with a GED and was able to focuse more on her YG trainee life. She debuted with 2NE1 and received much love around the world.
Other than CL, former Fin.K.L. and actress Sung Yuri is also from an elite family. Her father is Sung Jong Hyeon, who served as a professor at Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, the most prestigious and traditional Seminary in Presbyterian denomination in South Korea.
Meanwhile, CL debuted as 2NE1 in 2009 Under YG Entertainment. During they prime, the quartet made various hits including, "FIRE," "I AM THE BEST," "LONELY" and more.
Although the team disbanded in 2016, their relationship is unchanging. In 2022, they even performed for Coachella as a whole.
