aespa is earning praise for their live vocals in their first encore stage of "Supernova."
On May 23, 2024, aespa took home their first music show trophy for "Supernova," winning first place on Mnet's "M! Countdown." The girl group was against the boy group ZEROBASEONE and emerged victorious with 7,214 points. On the other hand, ZEROBASEONE had 5,776 points.
As customary after winning a music show award, aespa held an encore stage, where they performed their song live with no backing vocals. From the first line, aespa showcased their amazing live vocal ability. Leader Karina was even heard chuckling during her first line but still managed to deliver her opening flawlessly.
As they performed, the members were seen having fun, waving to fans, and moving their bodies to the music. At the start, they were also seen bowing down to fellow artists who were on stage for the winner's announcement. Out of all the members, Winter was the one who earned the most praise. This is because, in April, it was announced the idol suffered from a collapsed lung. The idol underwent surgery for it and was back to promoting with aespa a month later. It was noted that despite the possible shortening of her practice time, she still sounded amazing.
when you’re having fun but still serving vocals while being low on stamina because you’re still recovering from your lung surgery… ohh godter and godspa don’t end everyone like that https://t.co/5XOGT8j2fe

As several fourth and fifth-generation K-pop groups have garnered backlash for their vocals, netizens believe aespa is a breath of fresh air due to their ability to not only sing live but sing live well. Others commented that it is "fun" to support a group that knows how to sing, mentioning that they never have to worry about a controversy related to their vocals.
im so glad i stan aespa because i don’t have to worry about any excuses on why they sound like a dying goat because they are the GOAT https://t.co/QQks2MXTLT

I need them to win every week. I'm so tired hearing strained vocals and idols fearing encore from the past few months. aespa, we love you! https://t.co/I94nSEBI0y pic.twitter.com/ex9Lnf906Z
