Following reports that claimed Seungri was planning to establish a nightclub in Hong Kong, the government has spoken up to clarify the matter.
On May 23, several Hong Kong-based news outlets claimed Seungri had permanently moved to Hong Kong and plans to open a nightclub there. This comes after a netizen claimed their friend saw Seungri in Creamfields Hong Kong, a popular music festival in the region.

There, it was revealed the former BIGBANG member was planning to do business in the East Tsim Sha Tsui area. Reportedly, Seungri is actively socializing with alcohol distributors and owners of nightclubs. He is also seen with women on his arm, which the netizens claim are gold diggers.
Following the reports, the Hong Kong Government has released an official statement denying the claims.

In their statement, it was revealed that a spokesperson for the HKSAR Government stated that they have not received any visa application from Seungri for any talent admission schemes. The government will make sure to do its part in ensuring only applications from eligible people are approved.
They also added that South Korean nations can enjoy visa-free travel in Hong Kong for 90 days or less.
Their whole statement reads,
"In relation to media reports about a former Korean artiste who planned to move to Hong Kong and the talent admission schemes of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government were mentioned, a spokesman for the HKSAR Government clarified today (May 23) that the HKSAR Government has not received any visa application by the said person for any talent admission schemes. The relevant government departments will, in accordance with the established mechanism, play a robust gatekeeping role when processing applications for talent admission schemes to ensure only applications of eligible persons will be approved.
Currently, nationals of Korea (Republic of) can enjoy a visa-free period in Hong Kong for a visit not exceeding 90 days."
Seungri is currently under the public eye after the BBC released a documentary on the 2018-2019 "Burning Sun" scandal. The documentary detailed Seungri and other popular male celebrities' involvement in the scandal, noting how the club Seungri owned, Burning Sun, was a hub for illegal activity, such as drug abuse, rape, harassment, illegal filming of sexual acts (often non-consensual), and more.
