Recently, TWICE members were spotted at the airport heading to Japan for their "Ready To Be Special" tour dates. As usual, fans and media captured photos of the group, which were later shared online.
A viral forum post titled "Why is her appearance like that today..." sparked controversy as it targeted Jeongyeon's appearance, comparing her current look to an older photo of herself.
Instead of addressing Jeongyeon's irritated eye, which some had noted, the original poster (OP) chose to criticize her overall appearance.
Comments like "she looks like she's in her 70s" and "where did she go?" highlighted a harsh and superficial assessment of the idol.
In 2021, Jeongyeon took a hiatus due to a herniated disc and anxiety, which led to weight gain likely as a side effect of her medication. Despite her undeniable beauty, Jeongyeon has unfortunately been a target of criticism due to her changing size.
While harsh judgments are not uncommon in the world of K-pop, many netizens rushed to Jeongyeon's defense, advocating for empathy and understanding.
Netizen Comments:
- "Leave it alone. It's a health issue, something she can't control."
- "Leave her alone. Do you really want to criticize someone who's hurting like that? Even if you don't care, if you're a fan, you should know better."
- "Celebrities are also human beings, and it's natural for them to receive a lot of love because it's their profession. Don't be jealous. I hope she continues to walk a flower path in the future. I love Jeongyeon."
- "There are plenty of slim and pretty rookie girl idols out there. Just support them instead."
- "Why bother bringing up Jeongyeon's photos and criticizing her for gaining weight? She hasn't committed a crime, and what's wrong with her gaining a bit of weight?"
- "Let's not criticize people based on their appearance... They're human beings and it can hurt."
Despite the criticism, Jeongyeon's fans remain excited to see her and the other TWICE members perform.
