(G)I-DLE Soyeon's Rap Lyrics Draws Attention — Why Is Shuhua Being Dragged?

(G)I-DLE Soyeon shocked with strong lyrics during her solo performance during the group's concerts in Seoul. After the lyrics went viral, Korean netizens quickly dragged Soyeon's co-member, Shuhua.

On August 6, 2024, a post titled "Jeon Soyeon must have been taking a jab at other fourth-gen idols here" was shared with Nate Pann, a well-known South Korean online community forum based in South Korea.

In the post, the author shared a screenshot from a Soyeon fan account, which featured the lyrics of Soyeon's solo performance during the group's concerts in Seoul on August 3 and 4. In the lyrics, Soyeon slams idols who can't sing, calling them "tone-deaf clowns" and stating they don't belong in the industry. Her lyrics read,

"Little kids, move out of my lane,

If you want to dance, then go be a dancer, okay?

Tone-deaf clowns, you do not belong in this game,

If you're a singer, grab the mic or back off,

If you're a rapper, pen your bars, step up to play

Korean netizens who saw the post couldn't help but mock Soyeon's lyrics. They believed calling out other fourth-generation idols was hypocritical when her co-member, Shuhua, has repeatedly been called out for her live vocals.
I don't care, I'll scream it out, I'm not scared,

Hey little puppy, act like a dog."

Korean netizens who saw the post couldn't help but mock Soyeon's lyrics. They believed it was hypocritical to call out other fourth-generation idols when her own co-member, Shuhua, has repeatedly been called out for her live vocals.

Ever since her debut, Shuhua has been slammed for her vocal ability, with some claiming she is tone-deaf and not as talented as her members. Others have complained about her pronunciation, pointing out that Yuqi and Minnie are foreigners but sound like native speakers in their songs.

Others believe Soyeon was not in a place to talk since her members cannot sing live. Many also pointed out that though Soyeon has started singing more in (G)I-DLE's release, rap is still her forte, and her singing ability is not up to par with idol standards. Some were more aggressive towards Soyeon, stating that being pretty is an idol's job, and criticized her looks.

Some comments from Korean netizens read,

  • "There's a tone-deaf member in her team. Is she punching the air every time she sings?"
  • "There's a tone-deaf singer in her own group, though."
  • "3 kills in 1 shot, including her own group LOL."
  • "But Soyeon's can't even sing HAHAHA!"
  • "If Soyeon is an idol, then let's take a jab about being pretty."
