Chanyeol revealed through a new vlog his first meeting with his junior artist NCT Wish. However, this interaction ignited another "hate train" against the EXO member.
What was the reason?
On August 20, EXO's official YouTube channel posted a new video that contains the behind-the-scenes footage of Chanyeol's attendance at The Korean Memorial Festa and the 2024 TMEA Music Festival.
Among the scenes in the 13-minute vlog, what caught the eye of K-pop fans was the part where he shared clips from Macau when he joined TMEA. At the backstage, the idol had an arranged meeting with NCT Wish to take a commemorative shot together.
Although the distance between Chanyeol and his junior was felt, he played the role of a caring senior and asked the rookie boy group:
"Did you perform well?"
But feeling the awkwardness apparently due to the age gap and because it was their first solo meeting, the EXO member then said:
"I feel so awkward, take a photo of us quickly."
When the photo was taken, Chanyeol cheered for the last time and said, "Let's do this," before waving to say goodbye.
When this certain scene was uploaded on X, many international Eris (EXO fans) and WISHzens (NCT Wish fandom) were delighted to see the interaction, given that most members, including Yushi, dreamt of becoming idols because of EXO.

However, the abovementioned reaction wasn't the same with the Koreans. Chanyeol became the target of hateful comments after meeting SM's youngest group.
Looking at the video, he was criticized for talking informally to the members. Fans explained that he should become a role model to them by being respectful even to younger idols.
With this, his past cheating and gaslighting controversies were brought up again. They justified why he should stay away from NCT Wish and why he isn't worthy to be acknowledged as their senior.
Here are some of the comments:
- "What did you do well enough to meet your juniors and take a picture with them?"
- "Fxck, I'm so embarrassed with my past when I loved you. Please, just live (silently) like this, for real. Just don't approach these kids. Shxt, because of you I couldn't change my ID chanyeollove and it's fxcking annoying."
- "He went to give them a lecture on how to date 10 women like an old fart."
- "In my opinion, I would say I have a bias against people who speak informally to me when I first meet them. Even if the other person looks younger than you or seems like your junior, isn't it right to use formal language when meeting someone for the first time?"
