MAMAMOO Hwasa looked back on an unpleasant experience with her former company, and how she dealt with the CEO's stern diet requirement.
On September 17, the K-pop diva appeared on "The K-star Next Door," where she talked about lacing into her former CEO when she was still a trainee.
Jonathan, the show's host, brought up the topic after he read aloud Hwasa's nickname "K-Gangster Wife" as the idol apparently used to "beat up boys since grade school."
He was visibly taken aback after reading her profile in a plastic folder, but Hwasa clarified, "At the time, even if I say, 'Hey,' they'd call you a gangster wife."
She went on to say that whenever boys were mean to girls, she was the one who would step forward and stop them. However, it wasn't Hwasa, but her two older sisters were the actual ones who owned the title "gangster wives."
Hwasa then recalled a time when she got beat up by a guy in high school that it upset one of her sisters, who would then retaliate to him.
"He got beat up pretty badly," said Hwasa, then shared a good laugh with Jonathan.
"I was expecting you to get better when you grew up, but when you almost got fired as a trainee, you vented on your boss through email?" Asked the MC.
The "Maria" singer narrated that she used to weigh 60kg and was instructed by the company to lose weight down to 48kg.
Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, she managed to reduce her weight only to 49kg. Because she didn't meet the weight requirement, her then CEO wanted to fire her, which angered her.
"After a bout with him, I wrote a song about my feelings. The title was 'My Heart.' What my boss expected to see was an apology," said Hwasa.
Then, she surprised Jonathan when she revealed, "He actually liked me more after that."
The host proceeded to say that it's not easy for a female trainee to say what Hwasa said. But the idol confessed that she simply thought it would be cool to try it, earning praise from the MC.
