Prince William Apologizes For Kate Middleton Absence, Calls Baby Prince George 'Loud, Very Good Looking,' At First Royal Event Since Birth Of Son

Prince William made his first public speech since he and his wife Kate Middleton gave birth to their baby Prince George on July 22, at the Anglesey Show on Wednesday August 14 in Wales. Prince William spoke Welsh, apologized for the absence of Kate, and talked about his son.

Prince William began his speech in Welsh.

"My Welsh pronunciation is bad, but it is slowly getting better, I hope," he said at the county-fair-like event, where he thanked the people of Angelsey, Wales, where he and Kate lived while he worked at the Royal Air Force Base there, Us Weekly reports.

"Catherine is sorry that she cannot be here today at the County Show," he said of the Ducchess of Cambridge. "But she and George would have loved to have been here. He's pretty loud but of course very good looking!"

William told the crowd that while he enjoyed fatherhood, it was no easy task.

"I have to say that I thought Search and Rescue duties over Snowdonia were physically and mentally demanding, but looking after a three week-old baby is up there!" he joked.

Prince William thanked the people of Anglesey, and reminisced about his life there. He and Kate lived there part-time in a cozy rented farmhouse since even before they married in 2011, USA Today reports.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making my wife and me so welcome when we arrived here, as you do thousands of visitors each year. This island has been our first home together, and it will always be an immensely special place for us both. Catherine and I look forward to returning again and again over the coming years with our family," he said.
