One Direction fans are freaking out about a simple hug...or was it just a hug? Watch video of the hug below.

It may be the biggest overreaction of the century, but One Direction's Niall Horan hugged somebody, and fans are having a hard time dealing with it.

Niall Horan, 19, hugged a female friend on Monday night and was caught on the webcam.

Niall thought he had turned off the camera following a live online chat a few minutes earlier and got up to greet his guest.

Fans saw every move, however...and the Twittersphere exploded. The One Direction hug may have led to a kiss, many feared.

‏@Woah1D wrote: '@NiallOfficial NIALL JAMES HORAN THIS BETTER NOT BE A GIRL THAT YOU HAVE ROUND'.

Some users were jealous of the friend's beauty, saying things like @nina4ever1D, who Tweeted: '@NiallOfficial thanks... have you ever feel like ugly? that girl is much beautifull than me. :( oh god.'

Other One Direction fans joked, saying things like,

'‏Seeing my sister hysterically crying for a hour earlier because niall horan hugged another girl was the highlight of my summer #lol', @surah_c Tweeted.

Some 1D fans imagined that they actually had some sort of connection to Horan, saying, While ‏@__Imagine_1D__ tweeted: '@NiallOfficial @elliegoulding WHY ARE YOU FLIRTING WITH ANOTHER GIRL OK WE ARE OVER BUT I LOVE YOU BABY SO YEAH.'

Niall was bewildered by the drama, saying 'whats all the drama about?',...but it continued. The Irish singer had no idea what he'd started.

Others speculated about who the girl was-many thought it was friend Amy Green.

And some One Direction fans told the rest of them to calm down.

Truer words were never said.

Unless Niall and the girl kissed later, off camera.
