Kindle Fire HD 2, 8.9, Kindle Fire 3 Release Date 2013 In September? ‘Significant’ Spec Upgrades, Available For Same Price

The two new versions of the Kindle Fire HD 2 and the Kindle Fire 3 are the highly-anticipated Amazon tablets due out in 2013. Will the release date be in September? According to reports, significant updates have been made to the tablets in the second and third generation, but will be available for the low price consumers are familiar with.

Amazon recently slashed the prices of the current generation of Kindle Fire HD tablets, leading experts to suspect that a new product will be released for the Back-To-School and holiday season rush, Crossmap.com reports.

DigitalTrends.com reports that Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HD and Fire HD 8.9 at an event on September 6 last year, so we may expect a similar date for this year.

According to a report from Extreme Tech, both varieties of the tablets will receive "significant" upgrades in terms of hardware and software, Crossmap notes.

Extreme Tech reports that the price of the HD tablets will probably match the usual prices of past Amazon tablets: $200 for the 16GB 7 inch variety and $270 for the 8.9 inch. The Kindle Fire 3 price, also 7 inches, is likely to remain the same at $160, according to the website.

The updates to the specs for the 7 inch version of the Fire HD 2 will have a 1920x1200 screen display, 2GB of RAM, around 2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, Wi-Fi, a front-facing camera, and some storage options of 16, 32, and 64GB, the website speculates.

The 8.9-inch version will have a display of 2560x1600 and a rear-facing camera in addition to the other specs.

The Kindle Fire 3 will have a larger display from its previous models with 1280x800. The 1GB RAM is expected to remain the same.

There will also be impressive specs for the software of the Amazon tablets, but only after their release. The Android 4.2.2 will be included upon the launch, but the Jelly Bean 4.2.3 is expected to be available soon after the release.
