Gia Allemand Dead From Apparent Suicide After Battling Depression, Drugs; Family Will Bury Her in Queens

Gia Allemand’s family is planning a private funeral service in her hometown of Queens, N.Y., at the Papavero Funeral Home. Gia Allemand, died of an apparent suicide earlier this week. The former “Bachelor” contestant tried to hang herself in New Orleans Friends of Gia Allemand say that she was battling depression and drugs. Gia Allemand died on Wednesday after she was taken of life support. No date for Gia Allemand’s funeral has been released.

Gia Allemand, who was the girlfriend of Ryan Anderson, an NBA Pelicans player and who appeared on ‘‘The Bachelor’’ and ‘‘Bachelor Pad’’ on ABC, was 29.

Penelope Jean Hayes, Gia Allemand’s publicisict, “Allemand was found [Monday night] by her boyfriend, NBA Basketball Player Ryan Anderson, following an apparent suicide attempt. “Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, life support was withdrawn today.Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other life-long friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites.”

Allemand’s mother Donna Micheletti said in a statement, “The family and close friends of Gia Allemand have not spoken to the media to date, nor have they posted comments or insight on Twitter. There are numerous statements and theories in the media regarding Gia’s death and her life that refer to sources close to Gia or friends of hers. As her mother, I am well aware of Gia’s close friends and her best friends and I am personally going on record to refute all statements to the media out there thus far with the exception of official statements…After the funeral, I do intend to speak about my dear daughter’s life and death, and will do so in an open disclosure way with a trusted media source.”

Anderson thanked family, friends and fans in a statement, ‘‘Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile,’’ Anderson said. ‘‘She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared.’’

Gia Allemand was an actress and a professional ballet dancer. She started modeling for Johnson and Johnson ads and as a Gerber baby when she was a baby. Gia Allemand later modeled for Maxim magazine. Gia Allemand was the third-runner-up on the 2010 season of “The Bachelor.” The season that featured Jake Pavelka as “The Bachelor.”

Charmaine Blake, Jake Pavelka’s publicist, said in a statement for Pavelka, ‘‘We have lost an angel and a very dear friend.’’ Pavelka said he stayed friends with Allemand after the show ended.

Gia Allemand’s friends reportedly said they saw warning signs before she died. They said she suffered from depression and a fight with her boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, may have driven her over the edge. They reportedly said that the New Orleans Pelicans forward Ryan hadn’t proposed to her and was convinced he wanted to end their relationship. Gia was reportedly planning to move back to New York City.

A friend told the New York Post, “I’m not that shocked [by her suicide], because of her ups and downs. She fell victim to her own perfection and they were having problems.”

Another friend told the Post that Gia abused prescription drugs. The friend said, “The first thing everyone thought was prescription drugs.”

Another friend disputed this, telling Radar Online, “It’s unfair to categorize their relationship as rocky, but in the weeks leading up to her death they did have their first major fight. And because their relationship was so solid for the most part, Gia had expressed her sadness that Ryan hadn’t proposed to her yet, telling friends she was upset over it.”
