Lady Gaga Perez Hilton Twitter war broke out last night over race to the top of the charts between Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga and Katy Perry both released new singles last week. Katy Perry debuted her new single, “Roar.” Lady Gaga released, amidst a lot of hypnotic hype, the single “Applause,” which will be on her upcoming album, “Prism.” The Lady Gaga Perez Hilton Twitter war started last Thursday when Perez Hilton tweeted that he liked Katy Perry’s “Roard” more than Lady Gaga’s need for “Applause.”

Lady Gaga, who is recovering from a hip injury that sidelined her recent tour, saw this as adding insult to injury. Lady Gaga shot back by tweeting "Still have the text Perez sent me of me in a wheelchair with the words KARMA written across + Madonna pointing a gun at me."

Now, Lady Gaga has almost 40 million Twitter followers and Perez Hilton has 6.1 million fans following him on Twitter. So the Lady Gaga Perez Hilton Twitter war could become a global conflagration in an East Coast/West Coast feud that is reminiscent of Biggie and Tupac. Lady Gaga is a native New Yorker and still lives in Manhattan. Perez Hilton lives in Los Angeles and announced that he is moving to New York.

Lady Gaga saw this as an attempt to enter her territory, and worse. One of Lady Gaga’s Twitter followers warned Lady Gaga that Perez Hilton was looking at apartments in Lady Gaga’s building.

Lady Gaga tweeted "STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"

Perez Hilton responded with a tweet of his own last night. He called it "A Statement On Lady GaGa's Lies." Hilton swore he didn’t know he was infringing on Lady Gaga’s turf.

Perez Hilton tweeted "After a day of innocent house-hunting, I am devastated and my heart hurts that my former very good friend, a person I used to call my 'wifey' and traveled the world with, is making very public and very untrue allegations about me on Twitter." Perez added that "it is still too painful" to say what ended their friendship.

Perez Hilton went on to say that Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters” were acting positively beastly, posting nasty comments about his six-month-old son and sending him death threats. One of Gaga’s fans said he hoped Hilton would be run over by Katy Perry's truck. Another wrote "Perez Hilton is the most annoying and rude and fake person you'll ever meet! LADY GAGA RULES THE WORLD!"

Perez Hilton tweeted "If her fans want to send a message of support to Lady GaGa, they should buy her music."

Lady Gaga’s fans saw this as a backbiting reference to critics saying “Applause” deserved no applause because it was a flop. Lady Gaga swore "I've been quiet for a long time, not this time."

And Perez Hilton countered with "The truth will all eventually come out. It usually does!"

Not every Lady Gaga Twitter conversation gets nasty. She recently had a Twitter love fest with Cher.

Lady Gaga told her little monsters to cease hostilities and, well, ignore him. Maybe he’ll go away. She tweeted "Please monsters do not be affected by someone like this NOTHING merits this kind of hatred. Im ok & I always survive. Ignore him. Just Dance."
