New spoilers reveal that "The Vampire Diaries" season 5 will welcome a new hottie to its cast: Australian actor Rick Cosnett. But don't worry, Delena fans. Elena and Caroline will not be swooning over the newest cast member, who will make his first appearance on episode 2.

Rick Cosnett has been cast in the role of Dr. Wes Maxfield, a biology professor at Whitmore College, where Elena and Caroline will start their first semester on the season 5 premiere on October 3, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Take one look at Cosnett, and fans may think he will play a threatening new love interest for Elena (Nina Dobrev) or Caroline (Candice Accola).

But according to Entertainment Weekly, Dr. Maxfield "makes fast enemies" with new college students Caroline and Elena.

The plot gets serious fast when Caroline and Elena begin to think their professor is "hiding a dark and dangerous secret," the website reports.

Cosnett revealed on Twitter that he will make his first appearance on "The Vampire Diaries" on episode 2.

Cosnett tweeted: "Josh Butler you're a legend! Watch out for Season 5, Episode 2! So great to get to work with you. Cheers" 

Australian actor Cosnett is a relative newcomer, having appeared mostly on television shows in Australia and worked in theater, Entertainment Weekly notes.

Another surprising enemy come season 5 for Elena? Human Katherine. According to TV Guide, Katherine will once again stir things up, Wet Paint reports.

Elena force-fed Katherine the cure to vampirism at the end of season 4, and we're pretty sure she isn't happy with her new mortal life.

"For once they'll be happy," TV Guide writes of Delena. "But their bliss will be foiled - yet again - by Katherine, who'll be back to meddle in everyone's lives. Although Damon says that he's over her, what will Elena - who's now off at college - think when she learns that Damon and Katherine have been bunking together at Chez Salvatore all summer long."
