Jay Z Is First Major Star To Debut Music Video On Facebook With ‘Holy Grail’ Premiere, Featuring Justin Timberlake; Coming To YouTube In 24 Hours [WATCH]

Jay Z debuted the music video for "Holy Grail," featuring Justin Timberlake, on his Facebook, becoming the first major star to debut a music video on Facebook, Perez Hilton reports. The "Holy Grail" music video was released just after noon on August 29.

Within 33 minutes, the "Holy Grail" music video on Jay Z's Facebook page had more than 8,000 likes. It currently has 20,000 shares and 26,000 likes.

"Watch the official visual for "Holy Grail" by JAY Z featuring Justin Timberlake," Jay Z wrote on his Facebook page. "Directed by Anthony Mandler. JAY Z's new album 'Magna Carta... Holy Grail' is available now on iTunes."

The music video is also exclusive to Jay Z's Facebook page, and won't come to YouTube for another 24 hours, Billboard.com reports, meaning it will show up officially on YouTube after noon on August 30. The premiere utilizes Facebook's proprietary video player, which will have the exclusive on the clip before YouTube and any other video provider, the website notes.

"What we're doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution for music and how musicians can connect with their fans," says Nick Grudin, head of content partnerships for Facebook. "And we think that is particularly evident in Jay Z's approach here, which will really allow him to go direct to a massive and instant global audience. It's something that only Facebook I think can really deliver in this way, given the scale of the audiences musicians have and the global nature of those audiences and the social dynamics of what happens when they engage on Facebook."

Jay Z has over 17 million Facebook fans.

In comparison, Justin Timberlake's Facebook page has 25 million fans. Jay Z's Twitter account, @S_C_, only has 2.9 million followers and @jtimberlake has 24.9 million, slightly below his Facebook following, Billboard.com reports.

Therefore, it was a very smart move for Jay Z to premiere his music video on his Facebook page, where he would reach a larger group of fans at once.
