Pope Francis had his first selfie this week. OK, it wasn't actually taken by His Holiness...but close enough.

The Pope selfie occurred this week at a Vatican event. In the "selfie" (aka self-taken smartphone camera shot), the Pope even has a characteristic self-concious half-smile.

Humble piety be damned...the iPhone has some God-like stuff going for it, apparently.

For those unsure about what a selfie is, it was added to the Oxford Dictionary this week.

"Selfie: noun (plural selfies) informal a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

: occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn't necessary."

The Pope, as far as we know, has yet to twerk, however. That word was added, too.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis posed for a selfie with a group of young people who visited the Vatican. He snapped the photo inside St. Peter's Basilica with the group from the Italian Diocese of Piacenza and Bobbio who came to Rome for a pilgrimage.
