Pokemon Shiny Dialga Giveaway Event Begins In Europe: Will X And Y Push Nintendo 2DS, 3DS Sales?

As Pokemon X and Y draws ever closer, Nintendo is making a big push to urge interest back into the mega-franchise, starting with the shiny Pokemon giveaway event that is beginning today.

In Europe, Canada, and Australia, the shiny Pokemon giveaway event for a shiny Dialga is starting, which allows gamers to receive a Level 100 of the legendary Pokemon.

This shiny Pokemon event will last from August 30 to September 12, followed by the shiny Palkia giveaway event from September 12 to September 26. The event will end with a shiny Giratina from September 27 to October 12.

The stores that will host the shiny giveaway events are:

--GAME in the UK, EB Games in Canada and Australia, JB HiFi in New Zealand

--Micromania, Toys "R" Us, Cultura, Fnac, La Grande Récré, Picwic, and JouéClub in France

--GameStop and Toys "R" Us in Italy, Germany, Switzerland & Austria

--Blade Center, Fnac, Canal Ocio, El Corta Inglés, GAME, GameStop, Gamestore, Hipercor, Media Markt, Toys "R" Us, and Worten in Spain

--GAME in Portugal

--Media Markt and Saturn in the Netherlands

Like the shiny giveaway events, the recent announcement of the Nintendo 2DS shows that the company could be relying heavily on the release of Pokemon X and Y to boost system sales.

Both Pokemon X and Y and the Nintendo 2DS will release on the same day, but the questions remains, will this tactic actually work on consumers.

"Historically, demand for Nintendo's portable game machines starts to take off once the Pokemon games hit the market. With the Nintendo DS, sales started to spike after the company released Pokemon Diamond Version and Pokemon Pearl Version," writes The Wall Street Journal contributor Daisuke Wakabayashi.

Will Pokemon X and Y work its magic once again for Nintendo?
