Upcoming Android Phones 2013: Samsung Reportedly Producing Cheaper Galaxy Note 3 Phones, Targets Emerging Markets

This month, we confirmed reports that Apple is releasing two iPhone models in a year for the first time. One should be an upgrade of its highly succesful iPhone 5 model, while the other is a cheaper version that would target emerging markets such as China where it badly needs some work on the marketing side.

And then we came across this report from ET News, saying the Korean manufacturer is producing a cheaper version of its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy Note 3.

According to GSM Arena, the Korean website says Samsung would offer the midrange version after it ditched out its Super AMOLED screen in favor of a decent LCD. In addition, the camera would also get a downgrade to 8MP.

In the same website, it has been reported that 30 percent of all Galaxy Note 3 production in Samsung's factories are made with the downgraded specifications.

This is certainly a marketing move by Samsung to match Apple's iPhone 5C in a few targeted markets. However, it would not be a great plan to offer only the cheaper version to the same countries, as consumers would not have much of a choice.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Note 3, its cheaper version, and the highly anticipated Galaxy Gear smart watch at the IFA grounds on September 4.
