“One Direction: This Is Us” movie [SEE OFFICIAL TRAILER BELOW] premiered last August 30, 2013 and as expected, it received positive feedback, especially from 1D’s die-hard fans.

The film gathered $2.7 million on its debut. By the end of its opening weekend, the film earned $17 million. Many experts have already expected the 1D film to top the box office with Forbes expecting $18 million earnings while The Hollywood Reported expected about $20 million earning.

Sony/TriStar also predicted the movie to top the Labor Day weekend box office with an expected earnings of $21.5 million and go beyond Oprah Winfrey’s “The Butler” for a three-day stretch.

Despite a good three-day start, the “One Direction: This Is Us” movie fell a little short when Oprah Winfrey’s new movie, “The Butler” enjoyed a whopping $20 million earning after the four-day labor day holiday.

“The Butler”, starring Forest Whitaker as the White House butler who served for 8 US Presidents alongside Oprah Winfrey as Whitaker’s hard-drinking wife, garnered a total of $79.3 million earnings after the four-day holiday season. The film is also considered as the first 2013 movie to get the #1 spot in the North American chart for three consecutive weeks.

“1D: This Is Us” film, on the other hand, currently earned a total of $31.5 million worldwide since its release. The movie is considered as the sixth highest concert movie to date.

Despite “One Direction: This Is Us” good start, this concert movie somewhat fell behind Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber’s music documentary debuts.

“Hanna Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” is still the #1 concert movie with a $31.1 million tally on its debut in 2008 while “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” earned $29.5 million on its debut in 2011.
