`True Blood’ Season 7 Spoiler: HBO Kills Series in 2014

“True Blood” season 7 spoiler: HBO will drive a stake through the heart of “True Blood,” bringing the vampire series to its true death. Yes, we know vampires are supposed to live forever, but HBO is doing a van Helsing on “True Blood.”

HBO's immortal vampires won’t be living forever. HBO announced that “True Blood's” season seven will be its last. “True Blood” will end on a 10-episode arc.

“True Blood” stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard. “True Blood” season 6.

“True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” President of HBO Programming Michael Lombardo said in a press announcement, “Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. From the moment I read Charlaine's books, I thought there was the potential for something really special," Ball said in a statement. "Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations."

Brian Buckner took over day-to-day oversight of the “True Blood” season 6 from Aaron Ball. “True Blood” season 6 averaged about 10.6 million viewers. A lot of “True Blood” fans thought Season 6 would improve on the downward trend of the past few years for the show. Despite a creative drop in “True Blood’s” later season, it remained a summer staple for HBO. “Game of Thrones” was the only HBO series to pass it in ratings. Buckner will run the show for its final year.

“True Blood” told the story of Sookie Stackhiouse, played by Anna Paquinm a part-faerie waitress from a backwater town in Louisiana who can hear people's thoughts. Except vampires. Which made her romances with vampires Bill Compton, a civil war era vampire played by Stephen Moyer, and the former Viking Eric Northman, played by Alexander Skarsgard, a seemingly relaxing endeavor. The series grew from tales of vampires to tales of assorted supes like werewolves, werepanthers, faeries and witches.

”True Blood” isn’t the only HBO series that is ending. Treme will also end after an abbreviated fifth season. “Game of Thrones,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Newsroom” will continue. HBO will adapt Tom Perotta’s novel “The Leftovers,” in a series that will be run by Damon Lindelof, who helmed “Lost.” HBO also may greenlight a project from Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger about the 1970s music industry which star Bobby Cannalale and be produced by Terence Winter.
