Samsung Galaxy S3 Update: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, Android 4.3 Not In The Near Horizon For Handset, Will Users Get Android Kitkat?

Samsung Galaxy S3 update, or its lack of, seems to be the biggest blunder in all Samsung’s current quest for domination. While all eyes are on Samsung’s Unpacked event tomorrow in Berlin as they reveal Samsung Galaxy Gear and Samsung Galaxy Note 3, amongst others, the users of Samsung Galaxy S3 seems to have been forgotten.

Google has even announced the arrival of Android 4.4 Kit Kat, the anticipated update to the Android 4.3, which was the successor of the recent Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update.

The recent news that even Android 4.3 maybe in trouble for S3 shows the possibility that it may instead get Android KitKat.

The International Business Times on Tuesday reported that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for older Samsung devices maybe in jeopardy. The news site showed that one of the major clues for the arrival of the update has been eliminated.

The Business Times said that many believed this could be an indication that the Galaxy Note 2, and therefore similar Samsung devices in that category like the S3, potential update to Android 4.3 might be canceled.

Australian carrier Telstra, who earlier announced that the Android 4.2.2 for Galaxy Note 2 (a batch mate of the S3 handset in terms of release schedule), had been “withdrawn” to give way for a new version, which is the Android 4.3, has removed the information from its support page.

All this happened less a few days before Google made the big revelation about KitKat.

Tensions run high with S3 users

An article we posted about the Samsung Galaxy S3 update has received vehement comments from users, with one commenter saying that he will not be “getting a samsung phone ever again.”

Another user, Hamir, said that this “would be my last phone [from Samsung] really so much disappointed with Samsung as no updates till now for s3.”

Some Samsung Galaxy S3 users have blamed the slow sales of the S4 has reason for constant delays.

In our last KpopStarz article, we reported that in a review of Android 4.3 for various phones, Gotta Be Mobile said that if in case the Android 4.3 roll out happens, U.S. carriers are expected to not issue a major update until early 2014. Although no specific month has been identified, the gradual roll out for the Android 4.3 according to Gotta Be Mobile is rumored to arrive November this year, with an official release next year.

Know Your Mobile reported that a spokesperson from Samsung U.K. said that the company “will confirm upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months.”

The recent roll-out of Android 4.2.2 to lesser known devices has given many Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users hope that their update is on its way But the latest from Samsung officials and affiliates in both the U.K. and Germany is that the S3 will skip the Android 4.2.2 update and go straight to the Android 4.3

A few months ago, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update was very much expected and there have been leaks of the features. Many S3 users were expecting that they were getting the update only to be disappointed that less famous handsets get the recent software upgrade while they’re stuck with an older version.
