Jack Nicholson Calls It Quits, Cites Memory Loss

Jack Nicholson is reportedly retiring from acting, if rumors are to be believed. Radar is reporting that Jack Nicholson has quietly retired from the movie business. The Hollywood Icon hasn’t retired from public life, he’s just stopped working. You will still see Jack Nicholson sitting courtside at Lakers’ games.

After a career that spanned five decades, 76-year-old Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson reportedly has no plans appear in films again.

A Hollywood insider told Radar “Jack has — without fanfare — retired. There is a simple reason behind his decision — it’s memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. His memory isn’t what it used to be.”

Jack Nicholson hasn’t made a film since 2010, when he worked with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson in “How Do You Know.” The three-time Academy Award winner was courted by the producers for the upcoming film “Nebraska” for the part of an aging, booze-addled father who “makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.”

Jack Nicholson told the producers he wasn’t interested and the part will be played by Bruce Dern.

Jack Nicholson started as a gofer for William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who made classic cartoons, at MGM’s animation studio in the 1950s. He left to move into acting. Jack Nicholson, who was born in Neptune, N.J., made his first film appearance starring in the 1958 low-budget teen movie, “The Cry Baby Killer.”

Jack Nicholson won Best Actor honors at the Academy Awards his parts in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “As Good as It Gets.” Nicholson the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for “Terms of Endearment” in 1983. Jack Nicholson holds the record for most Academy Award Nominations with eight for Best Actor and four for Best Supporting Actor.

The source said “Jack has no intention of retiring from the limelight.” The source said he will still be part of the the Hollywood party circuit, “He’s not retiring from public life, at all. He just doesn’t want a tribute. He’s happy to tacitly join the retirees club like Sean Connery.”
