Miley Cyrus On VMA Performance [VIDEO]: ‘I Didn’t Even Think About It Because That’s Just Me.’

The controversial Miley Cyrus VMA performance had been the center of media frenzy and the target of negative remarks after the singer performed in this year's MTV Video Music Awards held last August 25.  She finally spoke out about her highly-talked-about duet with Robin Thicke, wherein she twerked and gyrated onstage to the tune of "Blurred Lines."

In the 29-second video provided by MTV News, the 20-year old singer said:

"I don't pay attention to the negative, because I've seen this played out so many times.  How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?  You know now, you know it's happened.  Madonna's done it, Britney's done it; every VMA performance, everyone that performs - everyone that performs, that's what you're looking for, you want to make history."

And it could very well have made history, indeed.  After the event, the Bangerz artist had twitted, "Smilers! My VMA performance had 306.000 tweets per minute. That's more than the blackout or Superbowl! #fact."

She continued to say in the interview:

"Me and Robin said the whole time, 'We're going to make history right now.'  It's amazing, I think now, three days later, people are still talking about it.  They're over-thinking it.  You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it.  Like, I didn't even think about it 'coz that's just me."

The multi-awarded singer is best remembered for her role as "Hannah Montana," an image that she apparently wants to shed.

Miley's "We Can't Stop" is currently at number three in Billboard Top 100, down from number two, and has been in the charts for 12 weeks.  It is an RIAA-certified double platinum, and its video had received various nominations.  It is a single in her "Bangerz" album, scheduled to be released in October.
