Bill Nye the Science Guy joins the cast for "Dancing With the Stars" season 17 and could be the biggest underdog on the entire cast.

With a cast that includes Snooki, Valerie Harper, Keyshawn Johnson, Amber Riley, Brant Daugherty, Elizabeth Berkley, Corbin Bleu, Bill Engvall, Jack Osbourne, Leah Remini and now Bill Nye the Science Guy.

On the T.V. series, Bill Nye the Science Guy was a way to connect to children and teenagers to help teach science. For those wondering, on the show, he danced around all the time. He helped perform music videos at the end of almost every episode. And for anybody who watched the show growing up, he had his patented jumping jacks for the opening video of the show.

Bill Nye the Science Guy is an educational television program that originally aired from September 10, 1993 to June 20, 1998, hosted by William "Bill" Nye and produced by Buena Vista Television. The show won nine Emmy Awards during its near six-year run.

The show aired on PBS Kids and was also syndicated to local stations. Each of the 100 episodes aims to teach a specific topic in science to a preteen audience. The show is frequently used in schools as an education medium, and it still airs on some PBS stations for this reason.

Nye served as a technical expert on "BattleBots," appeared on "Numb3rs" and contributed to The Weather Channel. In 2008, Nye was awarded an honorary doctorate by Johns Hopkins University.
