Microsoft Buys Nokia: Stephen Elop Probably Will Not Be Microsoft's Next CEO, Says Source

When seen from a particular perspective, a company buying another company is nothing new. Besides, it is how businesses cope with changes and trends in the industry. But there's just something about Microsoft and Nokia that sparks controversy, particularly the Finnish company's former CEO Stephen Elop.

Some conspiracy theorists believe that Elop was 'sent' to Nokia by Microsoft in order to change things and ultimately merge the two companies after just three years.

It was also Elop who is often mentioned as the main reason Nokia chose to manufacture phones run by Microsoft's Windows Phone platform, as opposed to the most popular OS which is Android.

And now that Nokia has announced it would be bought by Microsoft early next year, reports say it is 'mission accomplished' for Elop, who is set to replace outgoing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

However, some reliable sources familiar with the American company's board of directors immediately dismissed such speculations. In a report by BGR, the source told Reuters that Elop should not be considered a frontrunner for CEO because his "track record at Nokia is decidedly mixed".

On Tuesday, Ballmer said in an interview that Elop may be one of the candidates, though he didn't not give any further hints.

Whatever it may be, let us just wait what will happen next. By then, all our assumptions would be put to rest.
