George Clooney Admits He Destroyed Batman; Downplays Award Nomination Buzz

A former Batman actor finally speaks out on the Batfleck backlash. George Clooney has a short and smart statement. Also, he downplays award talks for his latest movie, "Gravity."

George Clooney donned the Caped Crusader's cowl in "Batman and Robin." It featured an ensemble cast with Chris O'Donnell as Robin and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. The villains were even more astounding with Arnold Schwarzenegger (Mr. Freeze) and Uma Thurman (Poison Ivy). It was both a critical and box-office disaster, to say the least.

Thus, when the Ben Affleck choice came out and critics chided that Ben Affleck would be  the worst Batman ever, George Clooney wasn't as generous of the infamous title:

"I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part. I tend to look at it like this - let's just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing."

Choice words from Clooney, who did what is best for him after such a career catastrophe: move on and never look back.

It's a long way from 1997 and now the former Danny Ocean (that's a better way to remember him) is on a more critically accepted film. "Gravity" directed by Alfonso Cuaron and co-starring Sandra Bullock has stirred up rave reviews and even Awards buzz. Clooney sidetracks the awards talk, and talks about the movie's demands: "Physically it's really uncomfortable. Obviously, just wearing the suit is uncomfortable. If you've ever gone to the Smithsonian and looked at one of those capsules that they took to the moon and back, it looks like its made out of tinfoil, it looks like a 57' Chevy. And you look at that and think anyone who would get in that thing and think they can take it to the moon and back, their crazy."

The official release of Gravity in theatres is October 4.
