Windows 8 Release Date: 4 Things To Expect From Windows 8.1, The Return Of The Start Button, Snap Views, And More

The anniversary of the Windows 8 release date is just around the corner, and it looks good that Microsoft is already rolling out its first major update even before the said date. But is Windows 8.1 really worth the trouble of upgrading or even buying a new license?

Based on the information we have obained from tech blogs and Microsoft itself, here are four of the many improvements the company has done to make their operating system more user-friendly.

1. Start button

A lot of people were disappointed last year when they found out Microsoft has left out its iconic Start button. Now, the button makes a comeback in this installment of Windows. While the computer or laptop will still boot to the Start screen, at least once you go to the Start desktop, you'll see the button at the bottom-left portion of the screen.

2. Work-related features

With this version of Windows, companies which are using the OS would enjoy additional features such as automatic file sharing within the network, while maintaining security at the same time. Mobility is also improved especially for users who work while traveling.

3. Better app integration

During the initial Windows 8 release, there were only a handful of applications which you can find in Windows Store. Fast forward to today and you now get hundreds more. In addition, touch responses and navigation are much more fluid and responsive than last year.

4. Snap views and ability to multitask

Last year, there were no options for multitasking as you get stuck with a particular application window, unless you minimize it and choose another one. Now, Windows 8.1 offers 50:50 snap views of everything you are working on. You can even resize that particular app, and even have a snap view of up to 3 or 4 running applications at once.

These are just four of the many improvements Microsoft has done with their Windows 8 OS, and it's definitely keeping developers and consumers interested. Windows 8.1 will be available from the Windows Store by October 17. Windows 8 users can simply upgrade for free, while Windows 7, Vista and XP users need to purchase the licensed version first.
