‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Will Crossover With Avengers; Actress Wants Iron Man Encounter, Writers Confirm ‘Movies Are Connected’

An actress from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' wants an encounter with Iron Man. It is possible, as the writers reaffirm the Marvel principle that all movies are connected.

At first glance, there's hardly any connection with Earth's Mightiest Heroes to a band of cosmic misfits. But in the comic world, nothing is impossible.

Karen Gillan (Nebula, the villainess in GOTG) had a chat with Total Film that she'd love to see a Guardians-Avengers crossover film. She will not confirm hearing any news from the Marvel higher-ups about such a film happening. Still, Gillan thinks the pipe dream project would be "amazing," adding that there was one specific Avenger with whom she'd love to work.

Gillan harbors intense admiration for a character: "Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr.'s really funny. I just love the tone of the 'Iron Man' films. You can really see Robert Downey Jr.'s influence on those films."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" prides itself on being the weird cousin of the Marvel family, populated with talking trees and an animated raccoon among other odd additions to its motley crew. But aside from aesthetics, Gillan says there's more that sets the Guardians apart from their higher-profile counterparts.

"What's different about 'Guardians' is that everybody is a bad guy," Gillan said. "There's just good guys within the bad guys."

The pipe dream has a hold on reality. Writer-Director James Gunn all but confirmed a crossover, but has no lock on when and which phase: "That just means that all our movies are connected, we're created in a way that we're very connected to the movies that came before us, we're even more connected to The Avengers 2, that comes after us, and so in that respect, what we would hope is that these characters would continue, and that at some point in time they'll all meet up with different characters throughout the galaxy."

The Marvel timeline is still firmly on schedule: Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015, Ant-Man  on November 6, 2015, and Doctor Strange sometime after that.
