MacBook Pro Retina Display 2013 Release Date: No 17” Apple Laptops Will Be Unveiled On October 15, Lack Of Cost-Effective Display Panels Possible Reason

MacBook Pro Retina Display 2013 release dates is rumored to be on October 15, but collating numerous reports from the rumor mill only point to a new MacBook Pro in 13-inch and 15-inch varieties. Though there have been many people clamoring for a MacBook Pro 17-inches, there are at least two Facebook Pages advocating for a Retina version of the laptop, 2013 may not be the time when it’ll be resurrected.

A key reason on why the new MacBook Pro line-up will not include a 17” model is lack of sourcing cost-effective 17”-inch LCD panels. When Apple discontinued the MacBook Pro 17-inches last year, ZDNet’s Adrian Hughes noted, “panel makers have not yet perfected a technique for making these panels at the appropriate cost and yield for Apple to be able to continue to offer a 17-inch MacBook Pro.”

The panel being referred to was the Retina Display that the 2012 MacBook Pros in that variety possess. Richard Sim of NPD DisplaySearch said last year that Apple was in a position to source out high pixel density from its suppliers, which includes Sharp and Samsung.

Hughes noted that if and when LCD panel makers improved on developing Retina display screens, and 17-inch panels become available, that would probably when the Cupertino tech giant offer the MacBook Pro with 17” displays.

Of course, the ideal would be to have retained the MacBook Pro 17-inch model, which will make the product line selection for the Apple laptops slightly inconsistent in terms of variety and offering.
