Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder continue to flirt via their Twitter accounts, and though it may just be friendly, are "The Vampire Diaries" stars too close after their break up?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiered last night, and both Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder took to their Twitter accounts to tweet messages to fans and each other.

Nina told her fans on Twitter that Ian was going to live tweet during the show, using a picture of himself with fang teeth to advertise it, and responded to the picture with the comment: "Ha! Cute."

Ian later tweeted: "Is it me - or will these dudes, just about anything for this Elena chick;) #tvd", referring to Nina Dobrev's character on "The Vampire Diaries," Entertainmentwise reports.

Perhaps Nina and Ian's flirty Twitter conversations are a sign that the two are still close despite their break up. Nina and Ian are playing lovers on "The Vampire Diaries," so perhaps they quickly learned to put their past romance aside, and become buddies again in order to work together professionally.

Ian Somerhalder posted a photo of himself on Twitter, with an award he was given for his efforts in trying to promote environmentalism, Entertainmentwise reports.

Ian captioned the photo on Twitter, writing: "I'm crazy stupid proud to be in this. Thank you to all for this honor and I look forward to collaborating with all I met last night. Such a monumental moment in my life."

Referring to Nina in the same tweet, Ian added: "Thanks for snapping this shot- photo credit @ninadobrev from set of the Vampire Diaries Love Ian."

Nina Dobrev had her own message for her ex-boyfriend on her Twitter: "@Condenasttraveler Recognizes you for your relentless outreach+using it to change the world as you have+will continue to do. MAJOR Congrats!"

Ian responded with the tweet: "@ninadobrev @Condenasttraveler Awwww!Thank you NINA-thank you for the love&support.Truly. Xo Ian."
